UPDATE: Reopening of Torres del Paine National Park, Chile
Following the widespread forest fires a section of the northern area of the park has now reopened which will allow access to a number of trekking route but at this time not all of the sites we usually visit will be accessible.
Our trips from Santiago to Ushuaia (v.v.) usually spend 5 nights in Torres del Paine. We are hopeful that we will still be able to spend a similar amount of time there despite the fires although at present the Chilean authorities are limiting visitor numbers.
The trips will still try to run as secheduled although it may need the leaders to implement extra night stops elsewhere if the local situation dictates as much.
Hopefully Torres del Paine National Park will fully re-open soon allowing us to offer all the amazing trekking routes the park has.
We hope our passengers enjoy the itinerary despite any small amendments which are out of our control.
A spate of forest fires in Patagonia had initially led to the decision by the Chilean government to close Torres del Paine national park provisionally until the end of January 2012.
Reports estimate that over 11,000 hectares of pristine flora has been destroyed by the fires.
